Update on Our House Situation

We still live in a bungalow.

I'm ok with it... because I do love our house.  Also because I realize that we listed our house during the slowest point of any year in regards to residential listing activity.  Good timing, right?  I've been known to have it...

So, the wonderful news is we have a contract on our "future house" and it doesn't expire... we have locked those fine folks in and are holding their house hostage until ours sells.  That's what a good realtor will get you folks.  Security.

I will encourage you to tell everyone you know about our little gem of a house that can be used for a number of things including a fine place to stay and cheer on the Razorbacks kicking off an era to be remembered.  There is someone out there that doesn't want to pay $400,000 for a house next to campus and doesn't mind walking up hill to the game, right?!  My thighs have been smaller because of that walk people...   You burn off at LEAST 2 beers walking to the game, and that is while consuming one.  Winning all around (except at the game but that is changing).

Well if you know my husband you know that he is quite adamant that I not fill up our garage, underneath our house or the front yard with furniture and deals that I cannot pass up for our future house.  But what he doesn't understand is that those finds will not be there in 14 months when we finally sell our house and move into the new one!!  What am I to do?  Should I secretly rent a storage unit and then somehow hide the money I've spent on a house of antiques, new furniture and art?  I guess when I finally do get the green light he can't complain that I have to pay exorbitant amounts of money for things that I could have gathered over a long time period... poor me.  Poor husband and poor bank account.

The latest hurdle is I have finally found a sectional that is sleek, down filled cushions and in my dream fabric.  But it is special order, expensive and takes 8 weeks to arrive.  The gamble is, order now... and hopefully in 2 months we will be close to moving in.  Or order now... and store the thing somewhere but have it as soon as we move in.  OR, what HE will want to do is order the day we close and live in a house with no living room furniture for two months.  How am I supposed to host a house warming party with no living room sofa?  Don't you dare say I have to use the sofa we already have...

Ta Da!  We have a great modern furniture store in Fayetteville that carries a great line.  This is seriously the most comfortable couch I have ever experienced and it is sleek and pretty low profile without scaring John away with it's stylishness.  I would have it made in a chocolate velvet.  The most amazing element to this couch is that every single inch of fabric is removable!!!!  You can take it all off and clean it and throw it back on.  Or, if we had oodles of money floating around I could order another cover in another fabric to switcharoo between seasons and need another reason to redecorate the living room!  This is more than I would normally spend on a sofa but the quality of it and the fact that it is so family friendly totally justifies the extra expense.  If you have shelled out the money to recover a couch you know the pain of the dollar required.

Here is my inspiration for our future main living room:

My goal is to have a wide mix of traditional pieces, mid century accents since the house was built in the early 1960's and natural elements to compliment my husband who loves leather and animals.  On the wall.  Actually a mounted hunting trophy will in no way be present on the main floor of this house.  There is a paneled den downstairs with a fireplace and I will even mount a plaque on the wall with John's name.  He has already said I do not get to decorate that room and I tried to get permission to at least choose the curtain panel fabric and at this point in time that is undecided.

Another view of the same room.  Source is unknown for both pictures.

The coffee table I posted yesterday would be beautiful with the sofa and in a room such as the pictures above, right?  I need to buy it...
