Dipped Chairs & Other Stuff

Well I was hoping my next post would be the nursery but there are still two things we need to do before I feel like I can share any pictures:  revise window treatments and hang light fixture.  I'll take responsibility for window treatments since I need to buy a special curtain rod because our original one will not work but the light fixture I will completely blame on my husband.  I politely "ask" every day and he politely informs me he will get to it, so short of throwing a fit there is no telling when it will get done.  Since the light fixture isn't anything that makes or breaks the room I'll share pictures once I get the rest of the curtains up.  I also feel like it's been built up now to where you'll be underwhelmed when you see it... oh well I like it a lot and think it's perfect for how tiny it is!

So on to something I saw on another blog that I think is a great idea and could easily be a DIY project for a small piece of furniture that may need a facelift!  I have two wooden chairs that my husband thinks I'm going to sell but I think now I will paint them in the style below and clutter up our office area with them.  He should know by now that most of his ideas are shot down (I do consider them I usually just don't like them) and he shouldn't continue putting forth an effort to help me decorate or de-clutter our home.  I'll eventually change whatever it is he doesn't like because I can't keep things the same so he should be patient and wait it out.  Advice on a polite way to convey this point to him is appreciated.

Here are some examples of "dipped" furniture:

You could also leave the top of the furniture natural and just "dip" the bottom in a fun color!  That is probably much easier but I like the floating effect of the tops painted and the bottoms natural, especially on a wood floor.  I'll let you know how mine turn out.

You can see the two chairs in this picture (along with our old carpet and my biggest fur baby).  I need to recover the seats and also secure the seats to the chair.... that's probably why John wants me to sell them because he will sit in a chair and the seat will shift or completely fall off.  I explain they are not to be sat in and were there merely for decoration and because I just haven't made it a priority to reattach the seats.  I understand how that can be quite annoying and will not bring them back into our house without a proper seat.

And another small update!  We have moved the large desk you see into the garage and my Dad has built a smaller much sleeker desk for us.  It will hopefully be put into place tonight and I can begin work on this office area and spiffing it up.  Curtains will stay the same and probably pictures too but I hope to find a fun rug and possibly a new chair for the desk.  We want to add a daybed to this area for guests too but that will be awhile until I can save up my pennies for the one I want.  Too many other things on my list.  Here is the daybed I am thinking of though:

It's like a fancy futon; the back folds down and turns into a bed.  I like it because it can be a vintage couch when we don't need it and does not scream temporary sleep zone.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!!  I'm using Sunday and Monday to get a couple projects done and hope to share them with you next week.  Ann should be arriving in less than 2 weeks so lots to do before she takes over our lives!
