Ann hasn't even arrived yet and I've already neglected Tara in the worst way..... I FORGOT about her birthday until about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.... which in my head was too late to do anything to make it up to her.
Tara turned 4 years old on Saturday, September 10th. I had hoped that Ann and Tara would share a birthday because I am weird like that and put dogs on the same level as children but it would have been cute for Tara to celebrate with Ann each year.... right? Like, matching birthday hats and matching cakes but one being dog friendly and one human friendly? Then again I can see me accidentally mixing the cakes up and Ann taking a big bite of dog cake and Tara consuming mass amounts of refined sugar. Guess two separate celebrations will be fine.
Anyway, when I realized it I also realized that Tara had been exceptionally needy and sweet to me all day and I feel that somehow she knew it was her special day and wondered when I was going to pull out the special food and presents. I didn't do either. On Sunday John and I went to Petsmart to buy more dog food and since Petsmart doesn't carry Tara's favorite toy (a stuffed porcupine that we have mistakenly called an armadillo since day one.... yes they look nothing alike and we were obviously drinking when identifying this toy but Tara now knows this toy as an armadillo) I had to settle on a large bone. It does not make up for my lack of mothering in any way but Tara doesn't seem to mind.
Peanut Butter flavor raw hide is disgusting.... do not buy one. Our whole house smells strange and it does not smell like peanut butter in any way. Tara loves it.
I've promised to buy a new armadillo for her this week. I'll also mention that she has a snazzy new collar that is less than a month old so that counts as an early birthday gift.
