Living Room Curtains - Step One

I finally got around to trying out paint drop cloths as curtains... I've seen it a few places and for what I need thought they would be perfect!  I didn't want to spend a lot since I tend to change my mind regarding decor but definitely wanted to lighten up the dark look I had before.  I haven't stenciled them yet because I wanted to make sure I liked the fabric and lighter color.  I think I do!  Here is a before:

Please excuse the dark picture.  I did this Friday night after work.  As you can see I have dark wood furniture, a dark rug, deep color on the walls and dark curtains.  We have large windows including skylights that bring a lot of light into this space but I couldn't take the dark dark and dark much longer.  I think I've mentioned previously that I purchased these curtains before we even had furniture in the house so they weren't exactly planned well.

Here is a close up of the pattern.  I liked them because they have a subtle pattern that pulled all of the colors in the house together...

For a quick cheap change I went to Home Depot and purchased 6'x9' drop cloths.  They are already hemmed so I didn't have to do a thing.  They are a bit long and I do like the puddled look but realize this is a little bit much.  Once I take them down to stencil the pattern and color I'll hem to a more reasonable length but still allowing them to puddle some on the floor.  I took these this afternoon when the light was a little better!  Let me know what you think!  I'm almost concerned that they are too plain and blah but know that when I stencil on them they will pop and look contemporary and unique.

A much lighter spring look.... now the decision whether to stencil the navy pattern on just the top third, the whole length or go with my sister's suggestion of stenciling a metallic gold for a tone on tone look but adding interest.  Feedback please??

Notice the classy pink water in my vase.... dyed flowers are the classy way to decorate...
