Living Room Coffee Tables

So I have been annoyed in the past with blogs where the blogger has a baby and posts seem to cease all together or slow down drastically.  I'm like "What, you're home with a baby and what else do you have to do besides feed the baby and sit at your computer and blog??!".  Yeah, how naive of me to think that.

Ummm a newborn is more work than I thought.  Not hard work but let's just say time consuming.  Everyone tells you they sleep most of the time and they do for the most part but sometimes the nap just won't take place in the crib or bassinet and baby needs to be held the entire two hours.  Sometimes the baby will literally nurse for an hour and a half and you are tied to the couch not your desk.  Sooooo I have had little time to think of my computer and projects I want to do... Ann is now awake more and able to entertain herself a little bit so I'm able to get a few things done that do not require her to be in my arms even though I sometimes decide that Ann just needs to be held for hours on end and we snuggle on the couch instead of folding laundry, writing thank you notes or unloading the dishwasher.  I'll have plenty of time when Ann is 19 and in college to get those things done so I'm going to not feel guilty about napping with her snuggled against me and having a grungy house.

Anyways I have finally figured out what kind of coffee table I want for our living room and it's a very inexpensive option compared to others I have come across and turned down.

The Ikea Lack Side Table in white.

I've been eyeing them trying to decide if I should buy something that cheap but since they are so cheap I won't feel too bad if they don't work out.  I can use them elsewhere I'm sure.  They have other colors and it would be so fun to add those to another room at some point but I've been wanting to break up our dark wood on wood on more wood scheme we have downstairs and add something contemporary and light.  These will hopefully do the trick!  What excites me even more though is this blog post I came across that totally adds another element to the tables and is so easy to do!  Here it is:  DIY Campaign Style Side Tables

I'm going to order the brackets from amazon and the tables from a seller on ebay since Ikea seems to enjoy torturing me and NEVER having what I want to buy as an online option.... it's not really worth it to drive to Dallas to buy two tables for $30.00.... maybe if I go ahead and stock up on everything else I want from Ikea would the trip be worth it.  Anyone want to go on a road trip with me and a 6 week old to Dallas to shop??  Anyone?  ?

I'll post the final product and hopefully, fingers crossed, this will do for our living room what I want it to do.  Also, John should be happy we will now have two tables instead of one small table that he thinks I put decorative things on just to torture him with.  I'll give him one of the tables for his feet or beer or dinner or whatever else his little heart desires to place on it.

Ordering this week and not telling the husband... I'm not exactly contributing to our bank account by staying at home with Miss Ann so I must purchase things as a surprise for him and claim they are to better our living environment and in turn our family!
