My first instinct was to do a nursery that is not too "baby" or something that is totally out of line with the rest of our house. So I'm leaning towards the contemporary with bolder colors that I like regardless of a baby's room and furniture that I think we will use for a long time.
We started with choosing fabric for the bedding and window. This took a long time for me to make a decision on.... I have gone a totally different direction than I thought I would and I think it's a good decision. The original room did not have any pink, strawberry, red, watermelon...nothing in the red family for a girl. Well that was a bad idea because I know Ann will have items and toys that have pink on them so I didn't want those to feel completely out of place in the room. On to a new color scheme we went!
The paisley is for the crib skirt and the poppy flowers will be incorporated by pleats in the crib skirt and also as a round pillow for the ottoman. I LOVE the poppy flowers... the tan middles are embroidery and the texture adds a lot. I never thought I would like a paisley but this one has a more contemporary feel to it with the colors and pulled a lot of things together for me.
This turquoise textured linen will cover a cornice board above the window. The window is 60 inches wide so this needed to be simple and bring in some texture and also a color pulled from the crib skirt. We are not doing bumpers on the crib so I wanted to add a lot of color and texture around the room to make up for no crib bumpers.
I finally made a decision today on paint color. I thought we would paint the room a decorator's white or light linen color but changed my mind to this: Sea Salt at Sherwin Williams. It's a very light sea glass green blue. I think it will richen things up more than the "white" would.
Next piece of big furniture that I am most excited about is the chest of drawers (changing table) we found today at a vintage store. It is similar to this one but not exactly the same. We are picking it up Wednesday so I don't have a picture but pretty much the only difference is it does not have drawer pulls they are built in so it is a little sleeker. Same lines though.
Now on to the rocker/glider. I did NOT want a wooden based glider. It isn't in style with our house and does not seem comfortable at all. I found this one (similar but not identical) on craigslist for $30.00..... hard to pass it up. I'm not using an ottoman like that with it; next picture will be the ottoman.
I found this at an antique store in Eureka Springs with my Mom! $30.00. That is the magic number so far on deals... the bamboo cart that is next was also found at an antique store for $30.00...
And finally my favorite find is this hamper. I'm not doing a diaper genie... I can throw them away in our outside trash can as easily as I can the diaper genie so I'm doing a fun hamper for dirty things instead.
Elephants are somehow turning into a theme for Ann.... baby shower has elephants and owls and now her room has them too. I like the whimsy this hamper brings to the room and hopefully when she's older she'll be more excited about putting things in it since it's an elephant? Hope?
That's all for now!! We are moving guest room furniture out this week and painting so hopefully by next weekend I can begin putting the furniture in there and will share pictures. My Mom is making the crib bedding, cornice for window and pillows so that will be done in about a month or so. Gotta get busy since she will be here in 14 weeks!!
Let me know what you think!
