Maternity Fashion

This pregnancy I have vowed to 1) not be cheap when buying maternity clothes and 2) remember what I hated the last time around.

Last time was obviously my first and I had a few cute things but most of what I wore was scrounged together and it showed.  I was so against spending money on the clothes that I look back and think, "wow I looked horrible for a good 7 months out of that year" and know that it is important for me to buy some things and not cry when I go into my closet each morning.  I think you probably know, if you know me at all, that I just don't love the pregnant figure and I certainly do not embrace it.  I don't mean I think all pregnant women look like crap but on me.... not my favorite look.  I have a hard time with the growing everything and prefer to tent it than flaunt it.  I've been looking online for a few good basics to order before I absolutely need them because I also found during my first pregnancy that good maternity clothes sell out of normal sizes fast.  As in, when you need a pair of denim cut off shorts, NEED them, you can't find anything in a reasonable size and you're stuck looking at Target and let's just say their selection is mediocre at best when it comes to anything but maxi dresses for the expectant mother.

My go to websites so far are Gap, Topshop and Asos.  We will see when I end up keeping, actually wearing and not crying over.  If you have any good suggestions send them my way please!

Both of the above are from Mango.  Not maternity but super cute stuff.  Shift dresses can be worn almost to the end or to the end if you gain only 20 pounds (I won't say how much I gained before).

A good work dress via Topshop maternity.  I would love this in black too and they have a white lined lace number that I may order.  I cannot stand the tuck or the empire under the chest area.  I am a little busty on a normal day so you can imagine what month 4 of pregnancy creates or better yet what month 9 1/2 looks like.  If you're small chested then please, wear the empire baby doll dress and rock it.  I look at you and think "how fun, she's wearing a strapless bikini all summer and a bandeau under her adorable little racer back blouse instead of a heavy duty sports bra to pack them down".

These look growing thigh friendly.  My friends, I gain in the most fun spots ever:  bust, hips, butt and thigh.  What's not the love??!  These should conceal nicely.  They also come in navy, white and denim.  Check, check and check.  Getcha some at Gap if you're in the motherly way.

White skinny jeans, thank you Gap maternity.  I work 4 days a week and therefore need an abundant number of work appropriate clothes.  I also work with mostly men so they cannot be subjected to anything too trendy or it confuses them.  Based on reviews I think these are a little slimmer than the picture portrays.  They certainly will be on me since this model clearly has a fake bump or doesn't gain anywhere but her belly button area.  A pair of white jeans and my go to black skinny ankle pants are every other day attire.

This is also a Gap dress, can't you tell?  I loved wearing shift dresses and think this could be good into the fall with boots.  It is weekend and work appropriate.  They have it in blue and a stripe.  Is it just me or does the horizontal stripe just accentuate everything?  Am I the only pregnant woman who does not love horizontal stripes?  I'm seeing them everywhere from pencil skirts to tanks.  So cute on the model but when I try them on I look 15  pounds heavier.  Don't worry, I'll get there but do not need my clothes to enhance it.

Asos has tons of cute blouses that I can order when it is time.  Right now I can get away with a lot of my blouses since I tend to wear loose things anyway.  I've gathered a couple maxi dresses but again, I've been inundated with the horizontal stripe.

Another staple for the warm months and fall for me are blazers and silky loose blouses.  I wear them weekly and it is flattering no matter what size your belly is.  So when you see me in skinny pants, a sleeveless silk blouse and a blazer day in and day out with a shift dress thrown in... don't worry.  I know I wore those pants and blazer yesterday but it is at least a new blouse.  And don't judge the banana Ann wiped on that dress Monday because I know it is Friday but I'm wearing it again and no, I did not take it to the dry cleaners.

Tomorrow I'll post my spring shoes because I've had to keep in mind how large and lovely my feet get by the end of the day.  Not quite yet but it will happen, I know it will happen.  Thankful for the ankle strap being ev er y where.

Also, I'm finding inspiration for looking cute via this blog.  I feel like her style is very much mine as well and she manages to look fabulous in the basics while managing a growing belly.  I'm excited to see how her style evolves towards the end when even maternity clothes are questionable during the late third trimester.  Wait, was that just me struggling to fit?  Oh.

  1. These are all so cute. I'm not pregnant and don't plan on being for some time. But I have sooo many friends with baby bumps right now and I will definitely show this to them.
