One room that I want to get done pretty quickly is the dining room. It's pretty visible and since we have most of the furniture for it already it is more of the fun stuff than the big stuff.
Our current dining room is based on navy blue. I love blue. I love navy blue. I thought I would carry that over to this house but since I'm not using that in our living room I'm free to go a completely different direction. The possibilities!!
This past weekend I found some velvet half off and a gorgeous chinoiserie that I can't leave behind.
You cannot even begin to get a sense of the pattern or color from this terrible phone pic taken less than 10 minutes ago but it's a gorgeous green with a chartreuse tinge. I've never met a chartreuse I didn't like.
The walls are a completely acceptable cream so that will stay. Below the chair rail is a painted grass cloth that I'll leave as well. Texture is your friend.
We will be using a beautiful dining table my parents have been holding for just such an occasion. It's a rosewood drop leaf. Sleek, traditional legs and lots of flexibility. I'll be recovering these upholstered chairs with the chinoiserie on the back and complimentary fabric on the front.
Using the same buffet and possibly lamps unless the gold ones mentioned previously just sing in this room.
Instead of using the side chairs we are embracing these!!
The dining room is quite small and I've been concerned about seating six or eight and it looking crowded. These have the traditional lines I love and allow your eye to move on and not stop on them. Also, can't beat the price. It's in our budget ya'll!
So, now that I have the green I want to bring in another color. A color I NEVER thought I would want to use. A color I even avoided for my own baby girl's nursery.
Pink.
PINK.
Let me explain.
The fireplace surround is a beautiful pink and grey marble. I need to draw this out, make it feel wanted. The best place to play with color is a dining room. Also, John has little opinion about a dining room. I can safely get away with something fun, I think.
Once I decided on this unexpected twist I noticed that it isn't that unusual at all. You don't even feel like it's a girly sticky sweet space at all in these dining rooms.
Or I could just embrace the green, throw in some grounding black and call it a success.
Here is a fabric I can't get out of my head for the drapes.... think I can get away with it?
It's got the green, grey of the couch, cream in the walls and the pink. Plus, it's nothing any normal person would choose and I tend to go that direction.
Pink, it is nice to meet you. Maybe I'll even buy a pink shirt.
