Here is what you need:
- 2 slices peppered bacon
- 1 diced onion
- half a diced green pepper
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 2 or 3 tbsp butter
- 12 to 14 oz smoked sausage with jalepenos (please use this kind, it makes all the difference)
- 14 oz can of baked beans (or leftover baked beans if you're lucky like that!)
- I forgot to take a picture of the half and half. The most important part! I used about 1 1/2 cups. You can use less or more depending on how conscious you are of your thighs.
First step is to melt your butter, and please use butter, in a skillet. Then dice up your bacon and get it in there with the butter! I like to go ahead and get the bacon pretty crispy before adding everything else.
Ahhh, bacon and butter. And you're done! Just kidding....
Next you need to dice up your onion, pepper and get that garlic minced. Toss it in the skillet with the butter and bacon. Drain bacon grease?? I don't know of such things. Embrace it.
Let those get going and dice up your sausage and add to the skillet. Let everything cook together for a little while and make sure your bacon is done. It will smell heavenly... neighbors will begin knocking at the door.
Add your beans and heat everything through.
And then, and THEN add the magic ingredient. Half and Half!!
Just one more dash of cream please.
Give it all a good stir and make sure it heats through.
I suggest cornbread as a side, adding a carb at this point is not going to make a difference. You could also serve a salad but I'm not balanced like that. Just carbs and cream for my family!
Enjoy!
