A Relaxing Weekend with The Teeters

Life has been moving very fast lately.  Both of us have been swamped with work and come home exhausted and wanting nothing more than our couch, dinner and puppy cuddles.  Weekends have been consumed with work for John and who knows what for me.  Obviously not efficient Christmas shopping and ironing John's entire closet.... neither are complete of course.  So this weekend John finally didn't feel the need to be in the office and I put my "To Do List" under the bed and said ok, let's go!  We went to Augusta, AR and duck hunted.  Well, John hunted and I perfected the art of being lazy, reading, cuddling Tara, cheering John on when he killed limits of ducks and playing with wonderful nieces and nephew.

John's sister Amy and brother in law Peyton are wonderful enough to let us crash the cabin on the farm and then crash their home for food and entertainment by Mary, Sara, Kate and Peyt.  It's their family farm and cabin and sits on a bayou surrounded by the farm, ducks, deer and cows.  I think it was built in the 50's... I think.  It's fabulous.  Here is a pic of the inside.

I LOVE THE CARPET.  It was replaced a couple of years ago but they matched the original almost perfectly.  I really love this place.  It's so cozy, full of family photos and the walls are full of critters and fish they have killed over the years.  It's really one big room.  The kitchen is to the left, the bunks are built into the back to the left and the windows look out over the bayou.  There is a screened porch on the back with a grill and in front of the cabin is a cooking shed.  There is a barn out back and the cows are in the pasture to the left when you pull up.  You can usually look out the windows across the bayou and see a deer or twelve, you can always see fish rising and geese and ducks coming in.  When you're there it's strictly fun, relaxing and family.  Perfection!  It's not fancy, new, decorated, or expected to be anything but cozy and providing a place for the men to gather and set up home base for hunting, beer and dominoes.

Here is another pic that shows the kitchen.

John's family usually has Thanksgiving at the farm.  Mary's birthday falls on Thanksgiving or within a day of it every year so it's combo birthday and Thanksgiving.  There are ten grandchildren and all of the adults to go along with the kiddos.  Hectic family fun.  It couldn't be a better setting in the fall to be thankful for your blessings and celebrate family.

You can't see the sofa and side chair fabric very well but let me assure you.  It's fab.  Obviously vintage... and the contrast with this fabric and the plaid carpet may not have been on purpose.. but maybe, it's perfect.  I like eclectic.  If you have been in my home you will understand my love of unexpected pairings, hence plaid carpet being at the top of my list for a future room in my house.

Side note to our weekend:  John packed a picnic basket.  Let me repeat, John packed a picnic basket.  It had cookies, candy, yogurt, bacon, eggs and bread.  Ummm we have taken a big step forward for him to get the picnic basket out of the laundry room, pack it full of things I love, put it in the truck for the drive and then surprise me with it when I pouted in the car because I didn't have time to eat lunch at work and I was so hungry that I could feel a migraine coming on because my blood sugar was too low and John wouldn't pull over at a gas station.  This happened.

Ok back to the cabin.  All Tara and I did was sleep as much as we wanted, eat as much as we wanted, play with kiddos as much as we wanted and read read read.  Actually, Tara just ate, slept and taunted the cows while threatening to roll in their poop.  A couple baths in the bayou were necessary.

Here's my stinky baby snoozing.

Paw Alert!!

John had successful hunts Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.  He and Bernie did what they came to do.  Kill ducks, retrieve ducks and drink beer.  (hang out with me and Tara was a bonus no doubt)

Here is Peyton and John with the Sunday morning bounty.  Tara wanted in the picture because she loves ducks so much and her Dad won't take her hunting since Bernie is perfection.  It's mean and harmful to her self esteem to choose B over T but John does it.  At least she got to sniff the ducks as much as she wanted.

Bernie and the hated duck.

Tara in her element.

We had a much needed weekend doing what we love.  Now I have wasted a weekend on relaxing and not Christmas shopping so this week is back to stressful!  I guess it is much better to be stressed about buying Christmas gifts than the more serious things I could be faced with and thankfully am not.

Thank you for looking at picture after picture of my dogs.
